One request to a machine door on this site — Nicola, MCP or a public API namespace — from a caller whose user-agent names an AI reader.

It does not mean a page read, and it is never added to served reads; the two come from different tables and share no key.

One row in the citations ledger: a named AI reader asked for a page or a content API route, whatever the server answered.

It does not mean content was sent; an attempt answered 404 or 429 is still an attempt.

Bucket

The kind of path the traffic recorder filed a request under — home, page, tool, api, asset, machine-files, other, or a kind this site declares in its own configuration.

It does not mean a folder on disk or a section a person would recognise; it is the recorder's own filing, and a path with no rule is filed as other.

Class (visitor)

The label the recorder gave a request from its user-agent string alone: human, a named AI reader class, a search-crawler class, or unknown.

It does not mean a person, an account or a device; nothing but the user-agent string is read to assign it.

Consent

The visitor's acceptance of the consent bar, held in one cookie; only after it is a request counted in the human class.

It does not gate crawlers or named AI readers, which are counted always, and it does not gate the lookups ledger, which records what was typed regardless, as the published policy says.

Door

An address at which a machine may knock: Nicola, MCP, a machine file, the runtime's status and knocks routes, this room's JSON twin, or a public API namespace.

It does not mean a private application namespace; those exist and are never named on this instrument.

Family (AI)

The provider a named reader belongs to — one wallet-registry family such as Anthropic, OpenAI or Perplexity — whose Leaderboard figure is the sum of its workers' tokens.

It does not mean a company's whole crawler fleet; only readers named in the registry are counted, and one of them is withdrawn from credit.

Fingerprint

Frozen

A figure that changes only when a file changes — a site file, a contract, this dictionary — and whose provenance line says what it is frozen until.

Gate

Honest zero

A ledger that exists and holds nothing prints 0 (honest zero): the count was made and the answer was nought.

It does not mean not measured; a ledger that is not installed prints not counting yet instead, and the two are never swapped.

Human knock

Receipt
